Couples & Relationship Counselling
Therapy for individuals and couples in the Clapham
and Lambeth area of South London
Welcome to my Practice
Relationship counselling can help you to look more deeply into the original hopes and sometimes disappointments of your life, partnership or marriage. From my experience, I know that by providing a safe therapeutic space that allows us to take time out to look at the issues together, these problems can be resolved resulting in positive changes.
My commitment to my work and support for my clients extends beyond counselling sessions. It includes a regular blog that discusses current issues that can stress our relationships with some ideas for their resolution. My latest blog 'Do We Really Need a Holiday?’ discusses a constant theme in the counselling room when listening to descriptions of anxiety, stress and despondency: the seemingly distorted work/life balance experienced by so many clients juggling home, career and relationships. The answer to the question of whether we actually need holiday breaks is a resounding yes. Please click here to read the full article.
Many of my clients come to see me as a result of a tricky relationship or family issue that they feel is impacting on their lives. They want to let go of negative patterns and thoughts. We use sessions to reflect on these problems and look at helpful changes they can make.
I’m noticing, however, that more and more new clients feel trapped by challenging current issues that are so present in in these uncertain times. Rather than a focus on one definite problem, many people feel that they can no longer just use family or friends as a sounding board, but need an empathic and impartial ear. It seems that those who should be safely governing our world are no longer seen as trustworthy. Clients often need look at what is not in their control and reflect on what they can do for self-care. This can mean a safe weekly hour to be heard and understood.
Christina Fraser MBACP is a highly experienced individual, relationship, marriage and couples counsellor. She has been working in her south west London private practice for over 20 years and her clients, both individuals and couples, are primarily from the Lambeth and Clapham area. Since the pandemic, the focus of her work has been online counselling and therapy. Prior to the lockdown, she worked face-to-face in her therapy practice and she hopes to be able to return to offering counselling in person as soon as it is safe to do so, as well as continuing to work online.
Christina had an early education in art and believes that this creative training and experience enhances her ability as a counsellor to observe much of what can be easily missed or ignored in client relationships. It enables her to offer a different perspective to clients who may be stuck in a particular way of looking at issues in their relationship. She is very committed to her own continuing training and development and completed further training that builds on this way of working: helping us to understand ourselves better by recognising the negative conversations we have in our heads and their impact in our everyday lives. By becoming aware of these negative thoughts, we can see which buttons get pressed, and why we can react so acutely to certain behaviours in others. When we realise how much of this comes from early patterns in childhood and how it affects our decision making and our perspectives in relationships, we can begin to make positive change with the support of an experienced and well qualified counsellor.
